If what there is, is movement, then, how do we organise ourselves? With his quartet “Variation(s) for A Few", the Frankfurt artist Cyril Baldy develops a micro-model for being with. Being with ourselves and others. As a classically trained dancer who danced for many years in renown companies such as The Forsythe Company, he directs his attention to the fundamentals of the body, time and space. For four extraordinary dancers, he develops individual solos based on the same sets of instructions. Each solos are danced apart and together. Similar to a musical counterpoint, where melodies are independent from one another, but played simultaneously create a musical complex of inter-actions. In this weave, the dancers make create an unfolding physical ecology that aims to suspend codifications and predeterminations without losing precision and virtuosity; in the process, they formulate an alternative form of being together.
